Moon Dusts: My 1 Month Review

I’d like to dedicate this post to something that I don’t often talk about on this blog and that is health. For a while now, I had been feeling really sluggish, irritable, and physically drained 24/7, and wanted to figure out a way to include more healthy agents into my diet without having to fully give up on my guilty pleasures of sour cream & onion fries, poke bowls drenched in sweet sauces and furikake, and bubble tea. Hence, I decided to start with mixing adaptogens in my morning smoothie and nightly hot drinks and record the effects for 1 month.

Adaptogens are natural substances that help the body resist the damaging effects of stress and promote normal bodily function. They must satisfy three things: (1) Must be Safe, (2) Reduce Body’s Stress Response, (3) Support Overall Health by Helping Body Achieve Homeostasis. Example: Ginseng

Moon Juice, a company started in the name of internal well-being, has everything from juices, adaptogens, vitamins, skincare, and snacks that are all plant-based. I’ve had my share of run-in with them ever since I discovered one of their shops on Melrose. I usually purchase their juices which are super good and full of healthy benefits. I love that they use all natural herbs in their juices, are transparent about their ingredients, and use less sugar than other health-based juice stores like Pressed Juicery. Asides from their juices, other popular items are their Moon Dusts, which is what I’ll be talking about today.

FullSizeRender.jpgWhat are Moon Dusts? They are finely ground adaptogens with plant and mushroom based ingredients to promote a healthier and more balanced you.

How do they work? Each type of Moon Dst has ingredients specific to its function. I will be including a list of all ingredients as well as how each affect the body in my review.

How many types? There are 6 types – Beauty, Spirit, Power, Brain, Dream, and Sex.

How did I consume them? I mixed them into a tasty smoothie or hot drink (they don’t taste good only mixed in water, tea, or milk like recommended, so get crafty!). I used between ½ tspn to 1 tbsp for each dust though the recommended dosage is 1 tbsp. I had about 2-3 dusts a day for a month – For breakfast, after dinner, and occasionally after lunch.

♥ Beauty Dust

How I mixed it in? Breakfast smoothie consisting of frozen bananas, almond butter, zambazon acai sorbet, raw honey, and vanilla soy milk. Taken every other morning.

Results: Glowing complexion after a few hours of consuming. The raving reviews about this are actually true. Long-term usage results in skin looking soft and milky. I even had a co-worker compliment me the other day. Mood was also pretty balanced. Overall, I love this one! It’s the only dust that actually has a physical result. This will definitely stay in my regular routine.

♥ Spirit Dust

How I mixed it in? Breakfast smoothie consisting of frozen bananas, almond butter, zambazon acai sorbet, raw honey, and vanilla soy milk.

Results: I was taking this through busy season at work, and though it didn’t get rid of the stress, the feeling of stress didn’t follow me home. In fact I came home feeling refreshed rather than feeling tired and irritable. The positive vibes were real. I would rank this #2 on best Moon Dusts because it’s pretty effective and I love that I can come home in a calm, inspired, and good mood despite the challenges throughout the day.

♥ Power Dust

How I mixed it in? Regular banana smoothie with two tbsp of pumpkin spiced cocoa powder.

Results: My energy levels definitely increased but only for the first few hours. The outcome is pretty immediate. I would liken it to having the same effect as black coffee in the morning without heart palpitations. This might be best for workouts. I recommend taking it with a protein shake instead. Other than that, it also stabilized my mood.

♥ Brain Dust

How I mixed it in? Regular banana smoothie with two tbsp of pumpkin spiced cocoa powder.

Results: Again, the effect is like that of black coffee in the morning without the increase in heart beats, but I don’t think it lasts all day. I was definitely more mentally aware and more determined at work. I noticed I could focus and work productively for a few hours after taking this. Overall, I think this would be great for short bursts of mental strain. I didn’t feel a slump after, but I definitely noticed a difference in my productivity. This is great for those hard Monday mornings and unmotivated Friday afternoons. If you have heart palpitations like me, this is a better alternative to coffee and tea.

How I mixed it in? Hot chocolate with flavored marshmallows.

Results: I have a hard time going to sleep, but this put me out like a light. The first time I took this, I nearly passed out on the couch which has never happened before. It only took 30min to an hour. I take this whenever I feel like I have too much energy to sleep or I can’t shut off my brain. I only experience a slight sleep hangover the next morning, but since I’m a morning person, I come out of it fairly quickly. I would also say that this is the most effective Moon Dust. If you have to only choose one, this is the one you should choose…unless you have no problems falling asleep. In which case, go for the Spirit Dust for all around positive vibes.

Results: I’m not sexually active, so I can’t really say much about how it works in the bedroom, but I can say that it does what all the other dusts do, and that is regulate mood. I’ve also found that it helps lessen my PMS and alleviates the lower belly heaviness I feel on the first day of my period. Overall, I probably won’t be purchasing this one anytime soon. Not that I have anything negative to say about it, but its effect is not significantly different than any of the other dusts. I may revisit this later in life.

♥ Overall Review for Moon Dusts ♥

Though I don’t think work/school stress is ever something we can completely alleviate, it doesn’t have to take over our lives and we definitely shouldn’t let it affect our bodies negatively. In my opinion, these adaptogenic dusts are all wonderful for allowing our bodies to separate from the effects of certain stresses when all is said and done. They’re mood enhancers/regulators at least that’s what they did for a moody person like me.

I loved coming home feeling inspired rather than feeling tired and restless. Personally, it has improved my life in areas of creativity, motivation, and my emotional health. I feel more positive and I’m not as easily annoyed. I’m feeling really good in my own skin AND I didn’t have to give up any of my guilty pleasures. All I had to do was actually eat breakfast and have a cup of warm goodness after dinner and voila!
